Gustav Hansen

"Gus"

Gus Hansen may just be the best young player in poker today. In the inaugural season of the World Poker Tour, he won both the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio and the LA Poker Classic at the Commerce Casino. Not only did Gus make the final table at the WPT Battle of Champions, but he has already captured another tournament in the WPT’s second season.

Wildly inconsistent because of his very aggressive and unpredictable style of play, Hansen isn’t afraid to take big risks, but sometimes those risks cost him. However, he compensates with his steely disposition and astute play, which easily intimidates players with far more experience or forces them into mistakes.

Hansen, 30 years old, is a native of Copenhagen, Denmark. Known as Gattling Gun or The Great Dane in poker circles, he divides his time between continents, living in both Monte Carlo and Las Vegas. Not only is Hansen a standout poker player, he is a world class backgammon player (where he plays for as much as $1000 a point) and an expert at more than a dozen different games. Recently he has attempted to master the Chinese boardgame “Go.” This is a man who lives for competition.
